Joe

Tim HursonMindcamp 2016

Last night Mindcampers received the sad news that our beloved Joe Miguez passed away yesterday. A sad, sweet evening, with many of us whose lives he touched walking the labyrinth together. Some tears, murmured memories, and yes, soft laughter as his beautiful presence came and went in each heart.

Goodbye sweet, sweet Joe. You will be missed, but with gratitude. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Joe
Painting by Russell Thomas

since feeling is first
who pays any attention
to the syntax of things
will never wholly kiss you;
wholly to be a fool
while Spring is in the world

my blood approves
and kisses are a better fate
than wisdom
lady i swear by all flowers. Don’t cry
—the best gesture of my brain is less than
your eyelids’ flutter which says

we are for each other: then
laugh, leaning back in my arms
for life’s not a paragraph

and death i think is no parenthesis

  1. Joe and I spoke with each other a number of times during the last few weeks. We both had things had things that kept us from making the journey to Ontario and were sorry not to be with you at Mindcamp this year. I saw photos of the beautiful labyrinth that you have this year (Hooray Bannanas!) and am aware that Joe is with us each time our hearts and minds are with him. I’m doing my tabletop labyrinth as I think of Joe and as I think of you walking and celebrating him with this year’s Mindcamp labyrinth.

As Joe often said, “It’s all about the return….”

    1. Joe used his creativity: Confronted with limitations on physical travel he found a way to be at Mindcamp anyway!

  2. Joe introduced me to Mountain 10 and the power of the labyrinth, and, over this past summer, he taught me that life is a mountain we never stop climbing.

  3. What a shock. I have not made it to Mindcamp in quite a few years now. But my heart is still there. Joe’s Labyrinth was always an important part of my Mindcamp experience.

I am sad to hear of his passing.

    Blessings to all

  4. So sorry to hear this sad news. God Speed Joe to the heavy-side layer, where all questions of the Great labyrinth are satisfied. There is a lavender labyrinth in my locale; now, I walk it more purposefully and with focus, since I met Joe last summer. His compassion and sensitivity shown toward me over the loss of my Mum just pre-Mindcamp, will never be forgotten.

  5. Joe was a kind and beautiful soul, who touched so many lives. Few people are able to embrace their inner truth with such commitment as Joe Miguez. We are richer for having encountered him and his labs.

  6. my sincere gratitude to Joe for his beautiful labyrinths throughout the years, they’re a cherished part of my MindCamp memories! I can still hear the sweet sounds of Franca and Anthony playing, feel the soft breeze, and see the torches or candles breaking the night darkness. Thank you Joe for a slice of serenity and invitation to meditate, reflect, and come back to the heart! Goodnight sweet prince!
