Youth Program

Kids are welcome at Mindcamp! Our Youth Program prepares young people to think, act and reflect creatively, inspiring them to become leaders within their schools and communities.

“I like how welcome and included they were in the Mindcamp experience. Treated as valid, whole and complete human beings, rather than only addressing adults and them being seen as tag alongs.” — parent, Mindcamp 2014

During programming hours, kids 5 and older will have things to do away from their parents. Although we will have some programs prepared in advance, in the end it will be up to the kids to decide what they would like to do. (It’s always been like this at Mindcamp for the kids: in a way the adult program this year has finally caught up!)

Older teens (15-17) can be youth participants, help with the smaller kids, or choose to join adult sessions. Or any combination.

“I loved that my kids felt comfortable right away in their brand new environment with brand new people.” — parent, Mindcamp 2014

  • Kids’ schedule will mirror the adult schedule times
  • Parents will be responsible for their kids at other times

Program possibilities will include a combination of perennial favourites that we do every year and special one-off experiences. In the past, most years, we have…

  • Played a lot of sports including soccer, rugby, disc golf (one thing or another every year)
  • Figured out how to make art and run around at the same time
  • Slacklining, wall climbing, ropes course
  • Gone swimming every day
  • Done improv
  • Made stuffies (little stuffed characters out of socks)

…and one year, we…

  • Wrote, photographed, and laid out our own comic books
  • Created, priced, manufactured and sold a product (at Mindcamp!)
  • Learned how to use a star chart
  • Modified Barbie dolls to look like Borg mutants
  • Created art-making robots
